2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the The Dismissal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam’s government by the then Governor General, Sir John Kerr, one of the most dramatic constitutional crises in Australia’s history. A distinguished panel of speakers, chaired by the Hon. Ken Martin KC, reflected on this momentous occasion at a sold-out event organised by The Piddington Society. Speakers included Dr Sarah Murray, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Western Australia; Craig Bydder SC, Solicitor General for Western Australia; Neil Douglas, Partner at McLeods Lawyers, Marina Georgiou, Barrister at Shoreline Chambers and Martin Bennett, our Founding Principal, who was a second year law student studying constitutional law at the time.
