Thank you to the ANDHealth team for helping us present our first #ACMDLink event in our new home and to our guests for getting up early to join us! ☕ 🍪
Collaboration 🤝 Translation 🔬 Commercialisation 💸 These are the keys to unlocking a new era in innovation – one defined by connected, data-driven and patient-centred care. At the heart of this transformation is the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne – a living laboratory where clinicians, engineers, researchers and industry converge to accelerate translation from bench to bedside. Today, we heard from an esteemed lineup of speakers on how bringing together the right expertise and different perspectives will accelerate translation and commercialisation outcomes. By working together collaboratively, exemplified by ACMD's seven core partners, we can avoid duplication of work in translation and commercialisation and turn breakthrough research into real-world impact. Thank you to everyone who joined us today and to our speakers, Jeff Malone GAICD (ACMD), Tory Williams (St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne), Prof Andrea O’Connor (University of Melbourne), Prof James Fallon (Bionics Institute), Prof Robert Kapsa (RMIT University), Prof Natalie Sims (St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research), Dr Caroline Herd (Swinburne University of Technology), Govinda Poudel, PhD (Australian Catholic University) and A/Prof Megan Robertson (St Vincent's Health Australia). This ACMD Link event was powered by ANDHealth.

A privilege to hear Professor Sir Philip Cohen speak at today’s #SVISeminar on how mutations in the kinase ALPK1 can lead to rare inflammatory diseases. Sir Philip outlined how these mutations cause ALPK1 to switch from responding to bacterial signals to mistakenly responding to human ones, keeping inflammatory pathways switched on when they shouldn’t be. He highlighted two conditions shaped by this mechanism: • ROSAH syndrome • Spiradenoma / Spiradenocarcinoma A fascinating look at how altered kinase specificity can drive disease, and how this understanding may open new paths to treatment.
