A privilege to hear Professor Sir Philip Cohen speak at today’s #SVISeminar on how mutations in the kinase ALPK1 can lead to rare inflammatory diseases. Sir Philip outlined how these mutations cause ALPK1 to switch from responding to bacterial signals to mistakenly responding to human ones, keeping inflammatory pathways switched on when they shouldn’t be. He highlighted two conditions shaped by this mechanism: • ROSAH syndrome • Spiradenoma / Spiradenocarcinoma A fascinating look at how altered kinase specificity can drive disease, and how this understanding may open new paths to treatment.
